Garnets typically range between a 6.5-7.5 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, meaning this gemstone can be more susceptible to damage compared to Rubies, Sapphires and Diamonds. This hardness rating may makes Garnet a poor choice for an engagement ring, since it will hold up poorly against daily wear and tear. Garnet is typically ideal for earrings or pendants.
